Bears and a Backsplash
What do you do when you’ve just purchased a home and the kitchen doesn’t work for you? You go to Goedecke.
What do you do when you’re an artist designing a new kitchen with Goedecke? You create the backsplash.
When the artist Crowden Satz (pen name) and his wife moved from California to Bedford, they found a lovely home—but the kitchen just didn’t work for them. As culinary and coffee enthusiasts who find great joy in their time spent in the kitchen, they turned to our designer, Diane, to create their dream space.
Adjusting to their new environment came with surprises - like lions and tigers and bears in their backyard! Well, okay, maybe just bears. To better appreciate the view, both wildlife and plantings, Diane replaced the cramped existing windows with a truly expansive 82-inch picture window and replaced the aging sliding doors with a beautiful single door and surround.
The walnut cabinetry perfectly complements the painted cabinets, while the magnificent slabs of Blue Di Savoia Brazilian quartzite ties the entire look together.
We relocated their coffee station to the wet bar, which was expanded by removing a closet.
To maximize pantry storage, we replaced an underused desk area with additional cabinetry.
Crowning the new kitchen is a breathtaking mosaic backsplash designed by Crowden himself. The design beautifully echoes the olive branches that surrounded their former California home, adding a personal and nostalgic touch to the space. Each branch, leaf, and olive was waterjet-cut from carefully selected pieces of natural stone.
