Faster Kitchen Makeover

Wide angle view of new kitchen

In this project, the team at Goedecke updated this kitchen in record time. Most kitchen remodels end up taking a few months from start to finish, but in this case, by selectively reusing existing components we were able to complete the project quickly.

The homeowner had recently moved into the home, a single level home in Manchester, NH. The kitchen, while having attractive granite countertops, was dark and not her style.  Although ample storage space is essential in a kitchen, the microwave and cabinet above the range proved to be inaccessible and inconvenient. The island with a cutting board top was a good size for the small kitchen but didn’t match the other counters.

Our designer Kim considered these issues and came up with a design within budget and solved the impracticalities while creating a beautiful kitchen. Then, our team of craftsmen got to work turning her ideas into reality.

  • Cabinets - Since the existing cabinets were sturdy and well-constructed, we opted to paint them for a fresh and contemporary appearance. The addition of new handles and knobs completed the transformation.

  • Range Hood - By removing the microwave and cabinet above it, we made space for a range hood that vents cooking fumes directly to the outdoors.

  • Island - We were able to find a granite remnant that matched the existing countertops to re-top the island.

  • Backsplash - The old backsplash was replaced with a tile backsplash that runs from the countertop all the way to the ceiling and complements the new color palette. Perhaps the highlight of beauty in the entire project is the accent tile mosaic above the range and around the vent. It is made from seashells and reflects light in all colors of the rainbow.

  • Flooring - We also replace the cold, hard tile floor with hardwood which matches the rest of the home. Hardwood is not the best choice for some kitchens as it can be scratched and dented easier than tile, however it is warmer and marvelously complements the grey cabinet paint of this kitchen.

  • Cown Molding – Adding crown molding to the top of the cabinets gave them a contemporary and refreshed look. It also prevents dust from accumulating on top the cabinets.

  • New Sink – Given that a significant portion of kitchen tasks occur at the sink, replacing both the sink and its faucet can significantly enhance the overall kitchen experience.

This kitchen has become a space where form meets function, and beauty coexists with usability.
